Apparently Sprint bought a nice chunk of Tidal - the music streaming service started by superstar rapper and hip-hop mogul Jay Z. Why would Sprint do this? Simple. There are many top musical acts involved with Tidal, including owner-artists. Is indie rock more your thing? They've got Arcade Fire. Like to dance? Daft Punk. Like... whatever Madonna is these days? Yeah. This isn't just a Jay Z and Beyonce venture. Sprint will offer exclusive music via Tidal. What did it cost them? Well, they bought 33%.
Tidal really doesn't have the greatest reputation, to be blunt. So this infusion of cash will certainly help them. It seems like a partnership of mutual benefit. Tidal gets access to more subscribers and money through Sprint. Sprint can now offer its cell phone users something different. I guess the real question is: Will cell phone users benefit? That's what we always want to know here. More options and more competition is usually good. Will subscribers follow?
